Last night, we watched Shelter... starring Brad Rowe (Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss) among others. It was one of the best gay-themed movies we've seen. Great acting and good storyline...definitely worth a view!
Yay!! Yesterday, we caught the Sex and the City Movie...and loved it!! The fashion, the humor, the gratuitous male nudity, the locations and, most of all, seeing Carrie, Samantha, Miranda & Charlotte all back together again!!
It was so much fun!! Of course, what's watching Sex and the City without a cocktail so Brice&Devin had to sneak in our mini bottles of liquor to go with our way overpriced sodas... ;)
Last night, we watched Cassandra's Dream by Woody Allen... and starring Ewan McGregor... and Colin Farrell... It was a really good movie with Woody Allen returning to England with a bit of the Hitchcockian flair he used in his movie Match Point. Watch the trailer for Cassandra's Dream here...
Last night, we watched the uber-creepy French thriller, Them... Great atmosphere and build up! The movie is based on a true story and, really, the less you know about it, the better. Don't watch the trailer unless you think you may not see the movie...
Last night, we watched The Golden Compass... starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and Eva Green. It was a fun little fantasy movie! We really don't understand what all the brouhaha about this movie was...we really don't care what the religious persuasion, or lack thereof, of the author of the book was nor do I think one of the central messages (to question authority) is wrong. Is it so wrong to see other points of view anyway?!?! That's what life is about...experiencing all you can and taking what makes sense to you, leave the rest behind in peace. As I've said before, religion can be used for good and it can be used for evil. Believe the way you wish and leave others to do the same...
Anyways, back to the movie...look forward to the sequel and here's the trailer...
Last night, we watched the Spanish film, The Orphanage... Oooohhhh, it was super creepy! Great atmosphere!! Really liked this one...here's the trailer...
Last night, we watched Cloverfield... It was really good as far as monster-takes-out Manhattan movies go. It probably really divides people on the love/hate scale as it uses a lot of shaky camera work, unknown actors and you learn very little about the monster itself. However, this is what we really enjoyed about the movie...it really puts you in the center of all the action, knowing only what you would know should you have been there. Also, the use of unknown actors keeps from pulling you out of the reality of the situation. Overall, a fun ride...here's the trailer...
Last night, we watched Lars and The Real Girl starring Ryan Gosling... It's a movie about a guy who, in a delusional state, falls in love with a sex doll. The movie costars Patricia Clarkson, who is always great. Ryan Gosling really is an amazing actor as well. Wouldn't it be amazing if a whole community really came together like that to help one person? All for one and one for all. How often does that really happen? The movie was certainly different but really well done and fun to watch...here's the trailer...
Can't wait until July...the new movie The X-Files: I Want to Believe is due out.... Wow...with this and The Sex and the City Movie, all Devin would need is Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Wonder Woman movies...is that what heaven would be like?!?!? HAHA!!
Last night, we watched Juno... It was a really cute, witty and smart little film...here's the trailer...
Ellen Page is just too cool...check her out in Hard Candy as well. Love the whole revenge on the local pedophile thing! Here's the trailer for that one too...
Last night, we watched The Water Horse, Legend of the Deep... it was a really good little fantasy movie. It also had some darker adult elements to the story that made it all the more interesting. Check out the trailer here...
Last night, we watched Candy starring the recently departed Heath Ledger... Though the movie was the familiar drug addiction tale and, really, covered no new territory, it did serve to remind the world did lose one of the most talented well known actors of this era. Here's the trailer...
Last night, we watched A Good Woman (based on an Oscar Wilde play) starring Scarlett Johansson... It was really good movie with great Oscar Wilde wit and, really, could have been great except for one glaring flaw...Helen Hunt, who was horribly miscast in one of the lead roles. Let's be honest, Helen Hunt is horribly miscast in anything (except for maybe Mad About You). She is an awful, dare I say it, actress with the most annoying voice. Ahhh, too bad, what someone like Nicole Kidman could have done with that role...
Last night, we watched what should be required viewing for all, For the Bible Tells Me So...what an amazing documentary...here's the trailer...
Although religion can be a wonderful thing for many, it has throughout time, and to this day, also been used to bring about violence, degradation, war, torture and suppression of rights. A while back, I had an epiphany on where I feel homophobia comes from and, interestingly enough, it was brought up in this documentary. I feel homophobia is actually anti-feminism. The empowered patriarchy is repulsed by the idea of men behaving in what they believe to be a stereotypically feminine manner. When it comes to the sexual relations between men, there is great abhorrence at the idea of a man being the "passive" one or the "receiver" as this is thought to be the woman's place. (On a side note: It is insulting when people ask gay couples, "so, who is the man and who is the woman in your relationship?"...uh, hello, we're both men...that's kinda the point...of course, what they're really asking is "who's top and who's bottom?", but why is that anyone else's business and why is it just one or the other??) In ancient times, after a battle, men would often anally rape those on the opposing side as this was considered the ultimate humiliation (Abu Ghraib, anyone?). Women dressing in what was once thought of as only men's clothing is no longer an issue, however, if a man dresses in a "feminine" manner, he is shunned. What are considered the "more obvious" homosexuals are those that behave in what is considered a fey or effiminate way and this is at odds with what society at large has been taught about how a man should behave. When the sports team performs poorly, how does the coach berate them...by calling them "little girls" (b/c to them, being a girl is an insult). Of course, as far as lesbians go, the patriarchal society is okay...as long as you're still "feminine" in appearance and willing to perform for the viewing pleasure of men. Once you appear like a "dyke", then you need to be put back in your place...you are not a man, don't act like you are one. This is absolutely repulsing! No more hegemony!!
Last night, we watched I Could Never Be Your Woman starring the forever beautiful Michelle Pfeiffer (who Devin has loooved ever since, yes you got it, Grease 2!!)... and super-goofy-cute Paul Rudd... as well as Tracy Ullman as Mother Nature. It was a cute little romantic comedy! Here's the trailer...
